Reinfection with SARS-CoV-2: considerations for public health response

Cases with suspected or possible reinfection with SARS-CoV-2 have been recently reported in different countries. In many of these cases, it is uncertain if the individual’s Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test remained positive for a long period of time following the first episode of infection or whether it represents a true reinfection.

COVID-19 testing strategies and objectives

This document outlines strategies and objectives for sustainable SARS-CoV-2 testing of populations to achieve specific public health objectives in various epidemiological situations. General population-wide testing, as well as targeted testing of individuals, or specific populations related to particular settings, are presented on the basis of country experiences and information collected from scientific literature.

Baseline projections of COVID-19 in the EU/EEA and the UK: update

Date of publication: 17 September 2020

This report provides updated 30-day projections, together with the inherent model assumptions and uncertainties. Both the model projections and the data to which the model is calibrated should be interpreted with caution given the differences between national surveillance systems, case definitions and testing policies. Comparisons between countries based on the data and forecasts presented in this paper should only be made with extreme caution and should take these differences into account.

EU Laboratory Capability Monitoring System (EULabCap), 2018

The EULabCap bi-annual surveys assess key public health microbiology service capabilities and capacities for EU surveillance and epidemic preparedness. Avian influenza overview May- August 2020

Between 16 May and 15 August 2020, seven highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A(H5N8) virus outbreaks were reported in Europe in poultry, with one outbreak reported in Bulgaria (n=1) and six in Hungary (n=6) and one low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) A(H5N3) virus outbreak was reported in poultry in Italy.

ECDC communicable disease threats report

Date of publication: every Friday

The ECDC communicable disease threats report is a weekly bulletin intended for epidemiologists and health professionals in the area of communicable disease prevention and control. Summarising information gathered by ECDC through its epidemic intelligence activities regarding communicable disease threats of concern to the European Union, it also provides updates on the global situation and changes in the epidemiology of communicable diseases with potential to affect Europe, including diseases that are the focus of eradication efforts.
