Date of publication: 26 September 2019Carbapenem resistance in Enterobacteriaceae such as Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli poses a significant threat to patients and healthcare systems in all European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) countries. Recent events of cross-border importation after patient transfer and large regional outbreaks highlight the risk of further spread of Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae and the need for enhanced control efforts. This risk assessment outlines options for control.

Avian influenza overview February – August 2019
Date of publication: 27 September 2019Between 16 February and 15 August 2019, five HPAI A(H5N8) outbreaks at poultry establishments in Bulgaria, two low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) A(H5N1) outbreaks in poultry in Denmark and one in captive birds in Germany, one LPAI A(H7N3) outbreak in poultry in Italy and one LPAI A(H7N7) outbreak in poultry in Denmark were reported in Europe.

Influenza virus characterisation, Summary Europe, July 2019
Date of publication: 3 September 2019This is the ninth report for the 2018–19 influenza season. As of week 25/2019, 205 167 influenza detections across the WHO European Region had been reported; 98.9% type A viruses, with A(H1N1)pdm09 prevailing over A(H3N2), and 1.1% type B viruses, with 85 of 146 (58%) ascribed to a lineage being B/Yamagata.

Monthly measles and rubella monitoring report, September 2019
Date of publication: 13 September 2019ECDC reports monthly on measles and rubella surveillance data submitted by 30 EU/EEA countries to the European Surveillance System (TESSy). This report is based on surveillance data reported to TESSy. ECDC also monitors European measles outbreaks through epidemic intelligence and publishes the most recent updates monthly in the Communicable Disease Threats Report (CDTR).
