  Rapid risk assessment: Outbreak of yellow fever in Brazil
Date of publication: 18 January 2018This is the second update of a rapid risk assessment originally produced on 25 January 2017 and updated on 13 April 2017. It assesses the risk to EU/EEA countries and citizens associated with the ongoing outbreak of yellow fever in Brazil. It was triggered by the evolution of the epidemic in São Paulo state and reports of an imported case into the EU/EEA from Brazil.

  Joint Rapid Outbreak Assessment: Multi-country outbreak of Salmonella Agona infections linked to infant formula
Date of publication: 17 January 2018An outbreak of Salmonella Agona linked to the consumption of infant formula (powdered milk) has been ongoing in France since August 2017. As of 11 January 2018, the outbreak had affected 39 infants (children <1 year of age): 37 in France, one in Spain confirmed by whole genome sequencing (WGS) and one in Greece, considered to be associated with this event based on the presence of a rare biochemical characteristic of the isolate. The date of symptom onset for the most recent case was 2 December 2017.

  EU/EEA capacity for the surveillance of hepatitis B and C using molecular methods
Date of publication: 23 January 2018In order to explore whether the current capacity for EU/EEA-wide molecular characterisation for surveillance of HBV and HCV is sufficient to be feasible and what gaps need to be addressed, a survey of EU/EEA Member States was conducted to assess their laboratory capacity and needs in relation to the molecular characterisation of hepatitis B and C.

  ECDC country visit to Spain to discuss antimicrobial resistance issues
Date of publication: 10 January 2018Following an invitation by the Spanish Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, an ECDC team conducted visits and meetings to discuss AMR issues in Spain on 15-19 February 2016, with the overall objective of providing an evidence-based assessment of the situation in Spain with regard to prevention and control of AMR through prudent use of antibiotics and infection control.

  Influenza virus characterisation, Summary Europe, January 2018
Date of publication: 17 January 2018This is the second report of the 2017–18 influenza season. As of week 1/2018, nearly 37 000 influenza detections across the WHO European Region have been reported. Types A and B viruses have been detected in equal proportions (~1:1), with A(H3N2) being slightly more prevalent than A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses (1.7:1) and B/Yamagata being significantly more prevalent than B/Victoria viruses (28.7:1).

  Monthly measles and rubella monitoring report, January 2018
Date of publication: 12 January 2018ECDC publishes a monthly surveillance report on measles and rubella data submitted by the 30 EU/EEA countries. ECDC also monitors European and worldwide measles outbreaks through epidemic intelligence and reports on them on a monthly basis in the Communicable Disease Threat Reports (CDTR).
